The Origin Story

Why I Built This

I've been running The My Future Business Show for over a decade. More than 850 episodes. Thousands of listeners every week. Founders, authors, CEOs, coaches — some of the most brilliant people I've ever spoken to. I started the show because I believed that too many small businesses fail not from lack of talent, but from lack of the right guidance at the right time. The podcast was my answer to that.

But the show had a dirty secret: booking every single guest was a nightmare.

Dozens of emails to agree on a topic. Time zone confusion — I'm in South Australia, and guests come from New York, London, Singapore. Someone always got it wrong. I'd chase bios, chase headshots, send calendar invites, resend them when nobody responded, and then — sometimes — a guest just wouldn't show up. No system, no reminders, no accountability. When payments came into the picture for premium booking slots, that was a whole separate process on a whole separate platform.

I eventually built a six-tool patchwork to manage it: Fluent Forms for guest applications, Book Like a Boss for scheduling, ThriveCart for payments, an email autoresponder for confirmations, Zoom for the interviews, and a spreadsheet to track where every guest was in the process — because none of the tools talked to each other. It worked. Sort of. But every handoff between tools was a potential failure point, and over time those failure points added up.

I even wrote two books documenting the system — mapped the whole thing out, shared it with other hosts. And then one day I realised: I'd spent years documenting a workaround for a problem that shouldn't exist. The right tool — one platform that handled the entire booking lifecycle — simply didn't exist yet. So I built it.

I've been obsessed with the idea that small businesses fail not because they lack talent, but because they lack the right tools and knowledge at the right time. That belief led me to start The My Future Business Show — a platform where founders, authors, and entrepreneurs could share their stories with an audience of business owners who needed to hear them.

The show has run for over ten years. More than 850 episodes. Guests from across the United States, the UK, Europe, Asia — all of which creates one recurring problem: time zones. I'm based in South Australia, working around schedules from the other side of the world, and someone always gets the maths wrong.

I documented everything I learned about running a professional podcast interview show in two books — Welcome to the Show 1.0 and The Greatest Podcast Marketing Book Ever Written. The books helped a lot of people. But writing them also made one thing painfully clear: I was teaching hosts how to duct-tape together multiple tools to do a job that one well-built platform should be doing automatically.

So I stopped writing about the problem and started solving it. Guest Booking System is the platform I built for myself first — and then realised every serious podcast host needed too.
